5 Ways to Amp Up Your Fitness Routine

There’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing your body’s transformation after adopting a new workout. You feel fitter, you are stronger and you’re mind is sharper. Unfortunately, humans are pretty adaptable creatures. Once we do something for long enough, it becomes like a chore and our bodies stop reacting the way they normally would to a training session. Eventually, we reach a plateau. Sure, a new jogging bra or trainers might help and a slick of Rexona Clinical may lift your spirits, but you’ve got to have something else in mind. Here are five wonderful ways to amp up your fitness routine, and feel motivated and refreshed in the process.

Take a class

Do you feel a sense of doom every time you go to step on the conveyor belt of a treadmill? Do you say to yourself here we are again? When you are mid-run, do you feel like hopping off and resorting back to the comforts of your bed? Nobody blames you, running on a treadmill (unless you absolutely love it) can get awfully monotonous after a while. If you’ve fist pumped and yelled out loud in agreement to any of these questions, it’s a pretty good indicator that you need to try something new. Throw aside hard-hitting gym activities and opt for something lighter and fun. After all, exercising is supposed to be fun! A yoga or Pilates class are great ways to bring your mind back to reality and focus on different elements of your body. Both activities are well known to promote weight loss, build body strength and improve flexibility – a far cry from just chugging along on a treadmill.

Use the buddy system

Perhaps it’s the competitive streak that lays dormant in us, but getting a friend to join in on your fitness regime really ups the ante; there will be no more half-hearted workouts when your equally competitive buddy is around. Especially, if you’re new to the gym, taking those first steps inside is a daunting task for any one, especially when you are surrounded by people who spend six hours a day targeting one muscle group and only consume protein powders. A supportive friend who can help you to focus will make any new activity less stressful.

There’s an app for that

If you’re too timid to approach someone at the gym, well you’re in luck, there’s an app for that! There’s pretty much an app for everything and the great thing about fitness ones is that they make you accountable for your routine. It’s all good and well saying that you ran for thirty minutes, but to record it down and figure out how many calories you lost, how far you went and how your heart managed takes your workout to the next level.

Reward Yourself

Have you been telling yourself that you don’t need a reward for something you should be doing anyway? If so, that’s nonsense. Rewards are an important part of any fitness goal, especially considering they require a huge change in your behavioral habits. When you plan your new routine, decide on a goal and start working towards it. It might be some new work out wear, a night out on the town or a DVD you’ve been dying to watch.
